Alisson Becker

Alisson Becker, better known simply as Alisson, began his youth career at Internacional in 2002, when he was ten years old. He worked his way through the academy at the Brazilian club before eventually making his first‑team debut in 2013, where he initially spent time as the backup to his brother, Muriel.

The following year, he usurped Brazilian goalkeeping legend Dida to earn the starting spot. He spent four years in Internacional’s first team, during which time he won the Campeonato Gaúcho in all four seasons.

In July 2016, Alisson moved to Europe after signing for Italian giants Roma for €7.5 million. His first season at the club was spent as deputy to Wojciech Szczesny, although he did make 15 appearances across the cups and Champions League.

Szczesny departed for Juventus at the start of the next season, which saw Alisson promoted to first‑choice keeper. This was Alisson’s breakout campaign in Europe: he kept 22 clean sheets across Serie A and the Champions League; Roma reached the semi‑finals, losing 7 – 6 on aggregate to Liverpool.

Despite conceding seven goals against him, Liverpool broke the world‑record transfer fee for a goalkeeper when they signed Alisson for £67 million in July 2018. They hoped he would end a run of underperforming keepers—culminating in Loris Karius’s errors in the previous season’s Champions League final.

Alisson immediately established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in world football, winning the Champions League in his first season and securing Liverpool’s first Premier League title in over 30 years the following year.

He has cemented himself as one of Liverpool’s finest‑ever goalkeepers. Alisson’s heroic saves helped the club to every major trophy at senior level; however, arguably his most memorable moment came when he headed the winner against West Brom in September 2020, a goal that proved vital in securing Champions League qualification. That strike arrived just months after Alisson lost his father during the COVID‑19 pandemic, making it an incredibly emotional moment for the keeper and everyone connected with the club.
