Our Winger Pick : Igor Paixão
Igor Paixão is a 24-year-old Brazilian who plays for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. Paixão has been linked with Liverpool at times already this season, as he has had a phenomenal campaign in Holland. Liverpool manager Arne Slot will, of course, be familiar with Igor Paixão, as he was one of the key players under Slot at Feyenoord.
Paixão currently has the second-most goals and assists in the Eredivisie this season, with 23 goal contributions. In all competitions, Igor has 16 goals and 18 assists in 44 games for Feyenoord. His tally of a goal contribution every 104 minutes this season would make him a dangerous asset for Liverpool or any other club chasing his signature this summer. Paixão also has a good injury history, having only missed six games in his entire career through injury or illness, according to Transfermarkt.
As we can see from his radar chart, Igor Paixão is a very dangerous forward who excels at scoring goals and creating chances for his teammates. He is also very comfortable receiving the ball and puts in a decent defensive shift for a player whose main attributes are actions in the final third.
Firstly, just like with Zeno Debast, we must remind you that this radar chart compares Igor Paixão to players in similar leagues, such as the Primeira Liga and in South America. Paixão is in the top 5% of wingers or attacking midfielders for non-penalty goals per 90 minutes, and he has overperformed his xG by 6% this season.
He is in the 85th percentile for assists this season, although this is helped by his teammates’ clinical finishing, as his expected assists are actually in the 67th percentile. Regardless, his output this season has placed Paixão among the top 20% of players in his position in terms of non-penalty xG and expected assists.
Igor Paixão is also in the top 10% for progressive passes received and progressive carries this season, which shows that he likes to attack the opposition whenever possible. He is in the 73rd percentile for successful take-ons and is very capable of beating his man when on the ball. His other in-possession data is more middle of the road; however, his pass completion percentage will need improving.
Paixão also puts in a defensive shift when needed. His dribbler-tackled percentage of 60% puts him in the 96th percentile. He also has a good aerial win percentage relative to the position he plays. Igor has an exceptional disciplinary record too, having not been booked once this season.
Igor Paixão is a versatile forward who can play anywhere in the front three, as well as in attacking midfield. His preferred position is left wing, but he has also played on the right side and occasionally in attacking midfield.
Paixão has not yet been called up to the Brazilian national team despite his performances, and so Liverpool would also benefit from keeping him on Merseyside during international breaks. This would allow Igor Paixão to adequately cover for Mohamed Salah when he goes to AFCON.
Paixão does not have experience in one of Europe’s top five leagues; however, he does have experience playing under Arne Slot and would have an understanding of the coach’s tactical ideas and expectations. Igor is also not very physically imposing, standing at only 5'6", but he does have a relatively high aerial win percentage, and his defensive output is more than good enough.
Lastly, Igor Paixão has a contract with Feyenoord until 2029, and there is no known release clause in his contract. We would expect him to be available for under £25 million.
