Right Back: Player Profile
The first player we will discuss is a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold. To state the obvious, replacing one of the most generational players in his position is quite a tough ask, and as Liverpool will not be receiving any transfer fee in the move, it’s possibly an expensive one.
We would expect Conor Bradley to be given his chance to impress as first-choice right back. Therefore, if Liverpool decide to dip into the market for a new right-sided defender, it will likely be one who would be expected to serve a squad player role.
As Bradley is still only 21 years old, it’s also likely that the club would favour an experienced head over a young prospect, and therefore we will suggest a player who is at least a few years older than Bradley.
The club also has a history of targeting versatile squad players, and so our suggestion must have the attributes required to play in at least two positions. Lastly, we would not expect the club to invest heavily in a second-choice player in any position, and so this suggestion must be relatively inexpensive.
As discussed above, we are not expecting this player to be considered a youth prospect with massive potential in his position, as the club already have that profile with Conor Bradley.
We also would not demand this signing to have the goal-scoring ability of Trent, as we will go on to discuss other ways that Liverpool can add some firepower to their ranks.
As this addition would also be expected to play second fiddle to the Northern Irishman, we would also not demand a clean injury history. It would be beneficial if the player has some of the same qualities as the outgoing vice-captain, but this isn’t required to qualify as a candidate here.
