Trent Alexander- Arnold

Trent Alexander‑Arnold is a local talent, having been born in West Derby, Merseyside, before joining Liverpool’s Academy aged six. Primarily a midfielder in the youth‑ranks, he captained the U‑16 and U‑18 sides under Pep Lijnders. Jürgen Klopp initially expressed concerns over the player’s fitness; however, there was no doubting Trent’s ability.

He made his first‑team debut under Brendan Rodgers in a pre‑season match against Swindon Town in 2015, then his official debut in October 2016 in an EFL Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur—almost exactly one year after Klopp took charge. In November 2016, he signed a new long‑term deal at the club, made his Premier League debut in December, and earned his first start in January 2017. He finished that campaign with 12 appearances and was named Liverpool’s Young Player of the Year.

In the build‑up to the 2017–18 season, injuries to first‑choice right‑back Nathaniel Clyne gave Trent the chance to cement his place. He seized it immediately—scoring a brilliant free‑kick against Hoffenheim in the first knockout round of the Champions League—and never looked back.

Since then, Trent has redefined the right‑back role, holding the Premier League record for most assists by a defender. He won the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2020, has been named in the PFA Team of the Year three times, and earned a place in the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World XI. In 2023, following James Milner’s departure, he was appointed vice‑captain.

With his contract due to expire at the end of the 2024–25 season, Trent has announced his decision to depart the club this summer. He is expected join Real Madrid, leaving many Liverpool supporters ruing the likely exit of arguably the finest scouse player since Steven Gerrard.
